Women are angels... and when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly... on a broomstick, if need be. We are flexible like that!

Dinner Night with Friends

Tonight I had dinner with  friends.   A few months back a couple of us decided that we should organize a get together and have dinner at a restaurant in the Provo area every month or so.  This time we went to the Braza Express in the Zions Bank building on University Ave. in Provo.

It is always good to catch up on what everyone has been doing and enjoy a good meal together.  Not all of the group was able to come, but maybe next time.  All of these ladies below used to work at the Uinta National forest Provo Supervisors Office.  But now they are either retired or have moved on to other jobs.  They are a great bunch of women and I am pretty sure that is why they are fun to meet and have dinner together.  I am going to miss these monthly dinners.

More of the John Day, OR trip

Here are more photos that I forgot I had of my John Day trip.

Below is a picture of John Day taken from the road going to the airport above town.
There was a China town in John Day in the early 1800's.  This is what is left of China town.
The Chinese came to John Day to get jobs working in the gold mines in the neighboring mountains.
The Kam Wah Chung building was owned by a Chinese doctor.
This is a ranch house just outside of town.
On my way headed back to Utah, I stopped at a view area with this covered wagon information kiosk.
Oregon Trail territory.
Below is the view from the view area.  It had just snowed that morning.
The stream along the road somewhere between Prairie City and Unity.

SEAT Manager Refresher Training In John Day Oregon

First day of RT-273 April 19th
The John Day airport facility is brand new and the forest service Rappell and SEAT programs are combined in the same building.

We took a tour of the SEAT base in John Day after lunch.
The big tanks in the back are for the liquid retardant and water to mix retardant.
The John Day SEAT manager explaining how the retardent mixing worked.
There are small airplanes with numbers along the canopy edge of the picture below and they represent all the SEAT's that have been assigned to the John Day base.
It has been great to see some of the people that I used to work with when I was working in Vale.
Below is Brian Rindlisbacher and Johathan Manski
Brian is the SEAT mgr in Vale, OR and Jonathan is the Aviation Manager for Burns, OR and Vale, OR.
We got to take a tour of the area not open to the public.  Below is the ready room for the Rappell program.
This is the rappell tower that they have in John Day to perform practice drills.

Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra

Last night I went with my Aunt Nina Rae and my Uncle Soren to the
Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra.
Their daughter, Rynell, plays the string bass in the orchestra.
This was the Timpanogos Symphany Orchestra's first concert. They were awsome!
The guest player was Jeff Shumway.  Jeff is a professor at BYU and is the husband of my friend Diane Shumway.  Diane and I used to work together on the Uinta safety committee before she retired from the forest service in 2007 or early 2008.  I had a chance to visit with her before the concert.  It was good to see her and catch up on what is going on in her life.
Jeff was amazing.  I can't imagine playing without sheet music.  He had it memorized!
Rynell has recently started playing her string bass again and she is really enjoying it.  In fact, she is playing in two orchestras right now.  She did an awsome job!
